Spring onions are a fixture in vegetable gardens and kitchens due to their mild bulbs and long, hollow, green leaves. Vegetable that can be utilized in a variety of dishes, from salads to stir fried. They lend a touch of heat without causing watery eyes like other onion relatives.
How to develop
Onions require nutrient-dense, well-drained soil. Onion seed can be planted directly into the garden, but many gardeners find that sowing into punnets and transplanting is more effective. Prior to planting, amend the soil with compost, well-rotted manure, and dolomite. Plant in broad sun. Create a 5cm-deep trench and lay seedlings across it so that the roots are at the bottom. Refill and hydrate the well. Within one week, plants will sprout. Mulch well and control weeds. Harvest when necessary. If you don’t want to disturb the soil, you can cut the verdant tops and the bulb will produce more leaves for a second harvest.
